August 2025 Community of Interest Highlights

The Aging in Community Education & Research (ACER) Community of Interest is a growing platform that facilitates the exchange of emerging trends, knowledge sharing, and the exploration of research opportunities. Designed to foster connections in an informal and collaborative setting, it brings together organizations, faculty, researchers, and students, enabling them to engage and collaborate effectively. 

The highlights from our recent CI gathering on Thursday, August 21st, 2025, are as follows: 

The participants discussed the challenges and benefits of Intergenerational living. The following are the key takeaways from the meeting discussion 

  • Intergenerational living fosters resilience, community ties, and mutual support but requires thoughtful planning. 

  • Housing design limitations were highlighted, as most homes are not built for multi-generational needs or accessibility requirements. 

  • Adaptable housing models and policies are needed to support families in making intergenerational living successful. 

  • More research and pilot programs could help identify best practices and scalable solutions.
