March 2024 Community of Interest Highlights

The Aging in Community Education & Research (ACER) Community of Interest provides a forum to share trends, ideas, and opportunities for research in an informal, virtual environment. Our objective is to foster an inclusive, interdisciplinary conversation that fosters tangible insights and collaborative initiatives. During our recent CI gathering on March 15th, 2024, participants shared valuable perspectives and innovative ideas, including:

  • Advocating for “enhancing recognition and visibility of seniors” through bringing cultural change and intergenerational connections.

  • Exploring the idea of creating private spaces, fostering social connections, and meaningful ways to reduce loneliness in retirement homes.

  • Discussed older adult loneliness and accessibility issues and proposed a center for seniors focusing on accessibility and social connection.

  • Advocating for the importance of a Healthy Built Environment, Biophilia, Technology, and Wellness in the design of spaces for older adults

  • Sharing areas of research about how older adults can live their lives in a meaningful way.

  • Exploring the potential for enhancing the role of care providers/staff to better meet the needs of adults living in retirement homes.

Please note:

The upcoming Community of Interest (CI) gathering is set for noon from 12 to 1 pm on Thursday, April 18th, 2024. We extend an invitation to anyone eager to participate in this important dialogue. Whether you're a researcher, practitioner, student, or simply dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for older adults in our communities, your perspectives and experiences are greatly valued.
